Excited for my Retroid Pocket 3+

If you follow this blog, then you’ll probably know that I am a gamer. I love gaming, especially on emulators and especially retro gaming. I grew up as a kid in the 90s playing my original Nintendo Entertainment System. Then I evolved to my Sega Genesis. Next, I had a Nintendo 64 and a Playstation. And my gaming just expanded and grew from there.

Since I am also a Dad, I find myself wanting to play more games, but I also find myself regularly on the go. I’d been looking into several options for portable gaming emulators for a while now. One nice thing about these devices is that you can take a bunch of games with you on the go and they’re all stored inside your mobile emulator.

In my research, I came across the Retroid Pocket 3+.

The benefits to the Retroid Pocket 3+ is that it comes with a considerable amount of RAM and storage and also a pretty nice CPU and GPU. I wanted to find one of these devices that could handle playing Playstation 2, Gamecube, and Nintendo 64 games. This device is supposed to be able to do all of that.

As you can imagine, these devices ship directly from China. My Retroid Pocket 3+ shipped via 4PX shipping. I was able to track it on my phone using the Shop app. Another perk of this device is that it doesn’t exactly break the bank. The Retroid Pocket 3+ at the time I wrote this costs $149.00 plus an additional $15.00 for international shipping. So, my grand total order came to $164.00.

One thing to keep in mind if you order one of these is that you’ll want to order a decent micro SD card to store all of your ROMs on. I purchased a Samsung EVO Select 256 GB microSD card on Amazon for$17.99 which is a pretty great price for the speed and storage.

You’ll also be wise to go ahead and begin building up your ROM library prior to receiving your Retroid Pocket 3+.

One game I am the most excited to try playing on the Retroid Pocket 3+ is Shadow of the Colossus. I really hope that this emulator turns out to be a little powerhouse that can handle this game.

Do you own a Retroid device? If so, what is your favorite game and how has your experience with the device been?
